Egg Quarters is the 5th stage in the Dark story on Sonic Adventure 2. Rouge is used to play this stage.

Speed Tips

Mission 1

This is a treasure-hunting stage. The general hunting tips apply. The best locations are:

Key 3: "Semi-dark Eggman" Head left from start, and two shadows over, there's an Eggman symbol on the wall that's partially covered by a shadow. Dig on the ground just in front of that.

Key 2: "Where you first landed" Okay, not quite where you first landed, but close enough. Just a short glide forward, and dig in between the two columns.

Key 1: "Yellow head" This one's fun. Head forward into the hallway, and do a suicide rush past the beetle. Once you're past it, jump up and let momentum carry you into the first E-1000 robot ahead, which can contain the key. The radar for this one starts out blank, but turns green before entering the doorway.

Mission 2

You might think nothing can rival treasure-hunting mission 1s for annoying random factors. This particular mission 2 begs to disagree.

There are several different ways to complete this mission, but the fastest way will take plenty of tries for even the most consistent player. From the start, dig once. Did you get a lightning shield? If not, you're not going to get the record this time and can restart.

While all mission 2s make it impossible to dig up rings, they don't do the same for shields. It's unknown what each item's frequency is, but lightning shields almost certainly come up less than 1% of the time. When you finally get one on the first try, be prepared to make that run count.

Run right and get the circle of 6 rings within your attract radius, then go left for 6 more, and continue in this direction. Through the curved hallway, get the 6 in the small room for 18. In the large room, climb up on the center structure (with the mystic shrine) and get the 8 rings there. Glide forward and right, climbing the pillar.

Normally it takes 3-4 jumps and lands to get this big circle of 24 rings. Thanks to your lightning shield, you can do it in 2. Jump as high as you can, and glide counterclockwise around the circle, making sure to attract all the rings therein. When you're done getting all the rings, glide right to the wooden box on the wall and break it, getting 20 rings to go to 70.

Continue through the path, getting the 6 rings before the next curved hallway. Into the green room, get 6 more rings at the entrance. Go to the other side of the room. There's another circle here, for 88. Get them with your shield and head up a level along the path to the blue room. There are 12 rings in the hallway to get to an even 100. If you somehow missed one or more, the wooden box on the table to your left in the wider hallway has 10 more rings.

Mission 3

Head clockwise through Egg Quarters' natural path as normal, until you get to the structure with the mystic shrine. Be careful not to get stunned by the ghost, costing time. Play the Mystic Melody to get warped into the Chao room.

Normally you have to go through another room to press a switch, but you can avoid all that. Once you emerge from the warp, glide toward the center and, without touching the ground, glide under the weight and dive down on the Chao for a quick completion.

Mission 5

Run left (clockwise), through the first grated hallway. You don't need to wait for a bomb here (or at all from this Kiki); instead keep going until you get to the shrine room and its three stacked cages on top of a chest. Grab the wall next to the chest, and push against the side. You may need to shift up or down as you go, but eventually this can put you through the wall of the chest!

Now climb over and up to the cages, and jump off. Rouge will be inside the cage, flickering in and out of the wall at 15Hz. When you're on the "out" half of a flicker, you can jump up along the outside wall, and this should take you right into the range of key #2 which is just outside the wall in diggable range. Jump again to go over the top of the cages, and continue toward the green path.

Unfortunately there's no known way to skip waiting for a bomb in the second grated hallway, so you'll have to get one. While you're waiting, quickly prepare for what you have to do with it by pressing Y 4 times and then B, putting on Treasure Scope. Pick up the bomb (being sure not to accidentally kick it instead) and continue forward, not pressing A or else you lose the Treasure Scope.

When you get into the green room, look for the Treasure Scope spring on the center step, and run into it, preparing for the most tightly crammed section of the level. Tap B to throw your bomb at the top of the spring's trajectory; you don't want to press the joystick in any direction at this point. This causes the bomb to head toward the back corner of this small room where it will bounce off. Meanwhile, once you've thrown it, move the stick so that you fall centered, right next to the cages, and then immediately turn to face the opening of the room. At this point the bomb should have bounced and is nearly overhead, so jump up. If you did it right, this intercepts the bomb to cause it to blow up in midair, rather than waiting for its fuse to run down. You also take a hit, causing you to fall backwards, and since the route doesn't pass through any rings up to this point you also lose a life and the timer stops until then. Finally, the explosion reaches out and destroys the cages, conveniently clearing the way for you to fall backwards onto key 3. If all that worked out, great. Otherwise, just get on top of the cages while you wait for the bomb to blow up, which causes you to fall onto the key.

Now you're back at the start with keys 2 and 3 collected, and the timer set to whatever it was when you died. Key 1 is straight ahead from start, and as you pass through the hallway you'll get into a run-in with the beetle robot. Run past it and into the shadow at the bottom of the steps, since otherwise it messes with your plans and slows you down, then turn around and jump onto the stack of boxes in the near left corner coming out of the narrow hallway.

Right here you want to jump up at such an angle that you get around the overhang above you, then time a glide precisely so that you pass through a seam between the top of the overhang and the fire mouth on the side wall. This takes you through the wall, and from there you can glide outside the hallway until you re-enter inside the cage with key 1, which picks up the key and completes the level. You may have a hard time getting the camera to follow you out, but keep trying to manipulate it.
