Mario Kart 64 is a racing game released in December 1996 for the Nintendo 64. It is a sequel to the very successful SNES title Super Mario Kart, and the popular series continued with Mario Kart Super Circuit, Mario Kart: Double Dash!!, and Mario Kart DS.

Time Trials
The Mario Kart Players' Page has run MK64 time trial competition since the spring of 1997. The current world champion is Matthias Rustemeyer, who holds nearly all of the game's 32 non-shortcut World Records.
