Serious Sam: The First Encounter is an FPS released in March of 2001 by Croteam for the PC. The series continued with Serious Sam: The Second Encounter.

The Speed Demos Archive hosts Serious Sam competition. The current proven World Record for a complete-game SS speedrun on Serious difficulty is 53 minutes and 50 seconds, achieved by Drew "stx-Vile" DeVore in May of 2005.

Since 2014, Speedrun.com has been the go-to source for Serious Sam Speedruns. The current proven World Records are as follows.

Tourist/Easy difficulty Any% in 31 minutes and 50 seconds by bonegures

Normal difficulty Any% in 32 minutes and 44 seconds by Inv1ve

Serious difficulty Any% in 37 minutes and 16 seconds by Inv1ve

Mental difficulty Any% in 36 minutes and 54 seconds by Inv1ve
