Along with some minor AI updates, a new "series" of monsters, [[Race-X]], was added. It is unknown where they came from or how they got into [[Black Mesa]] as they don't show any resemblance to the aliens from [[Xen]]. Opposing Force is the first Half-Life game to feature "classes", various people you can run into that will help/follow you. The game also had a few weapons replaced, but added some too, the most notable being a [[Barnacle]] that you can use like a grappling hook, although it will only attach to living things. It is unknown how Barnacles are able to tell the difference, and there is a difference in this between the games: in Opposing Force the Barnacle can immediately tell if what you "shoot it at" is alive, and if it isn't, it will come back. However, in [[Half-Life 2]] you can throw a barrel at ones tongue, and it will take it all the way up to its mouth before dropping it.
