The '''2010 Karter Contest''' is the [[mariokart64.com|Mario Kart]] community's fourth '''[[Karter Contest]]''', following in the tradition of the highly successful [[2004 Karter Contest|2004]], [[2006 Karter Contest|2006]], and [[2008 Karter Contest|2008]] contests. For the first time ever, members of the kart community were asked to send in nominations to help determine the entrants. Using these nominations, 128 of the most popular karters were chosen to make the field.

For Round 1, the contestants were divided into 32 groups of 4. Voters will vote for 1 person from each group. Round 1 begins on May 24th.

The top 3 from each group will advance to Round 2, where they are placed in a more traditional 1v1 bracket. The top finisher in each group earns a Bye into Round 3, while each 2nd place finisher will face a 3rd place finisher from another group in Round 2. The earliest that two people from the same group could possibly meet again is in the Semifinals. Round 2 begins on June 4th.

* The numbers in that bracket will be replaced by people as they advance past the group round. For example, 1-1 will be replaced by the winner of Group 1, 17-2 will be replaced by the 2nd place finisher in Group 17, and so on.

After the final has finished and this year's winner is determined, there will be a short Tournament of Champions where he (or she) will face the winners of the 3 previous contests.

* Round 1 will feature 4 matches per day. Rounds 2-6 will feature 2 matches per day. The Final will last 2 days.
* All voting must be done on the Mario Kart MB. Polls will be put up each day for voting. If you anticipate you will be away for a few matches and want to send in your votes early, you may PM your votes to Honko on the Message Board. Votes via email/AIM/MSN/IRC/etc will not be accepted. Votes by PM will only be accepted before the match in question starts, and only from people who have already voted in a Contest Poll at least once. If you're around on the day of the match, you should vote in the Poll.
* Anyone who is a member of at least one of the six Mario Kart Time Trials sites as of January 1st, 2010 is allowed to vote. Anyone who is unsure of their eligibility should contact Honko.
